In May, 2016, Gibsons resident Brenda Thomas purchased Green Room Organics on Henry Road and changed the name to Green Growers Farm. She and partner Thomas Murray have dedicated the last seven years of their lives to researching and testing best farming practices based on their shared ethical beliefs in the core values of Sustainability, Food Sovereignty, Permaculture, and Environmental Responsibility. Through community involvement and political participation Brenda and Tom have helped raise awareness of Sustainability and Food Sovereignty issues on the Sunshine Coast. Together, they hope to contribute to developing more food production-based strategies in the area, improve Food Security, and maintain the rural nature of the this fabulous part of Canada. They also hope to help provide year-round opportunities for like-minded entrepreneurs interested in sharing knowledge, resources, and infrastructure.
Green Growers Farm is an 8.5 acre farm and animal pasture with a 9,000 square foot greenhouse, farmhouse, and several outbuildings housing chickens, ducks, llamas, goats, and sheep. It includes a farm gate market (click here to see product descriptions) which sells fresh, organically grown local produce, fruit, and berries in season.
Brenda and Tom are always open to conversations and brainstorming sessions with serious, like-minded potential partners who wish to improve Food Security here on the Sunshine Coast.
